Jurassic Granodiorite, Castle Crags State Park, California
ID 2187 |
The Castle Crags are a Jurassic granodiorite pluton, which has intruded the Trinity ophiolite in the eastern part of the Klamath Mountains. The exfoliation and vertical joints provided avenues for rapid weathering that resulted in erosion of pinnacles and towers that rise prominently above the surrounding countryside. Photographed along the Pacific Crest Trail. |
