ID 2179 Fractured Middle Miocene marine rocks exposed at low tide. Note the gentle seaward dip of the layers above the tidal pool. Crystal Cove State Park preserves the largest stretch of undeveloped coastline in Orange County. The park's 3 1/4-mile long sandy beach, bisected by rocky points, is backed by dramatic bluffs and elevated marine terraces of Middle Miocene shales and sandstones.
